An OEE score of 100% means you are manufacturing only Good Parts, as fast as possible, with no Stop Time. OEE is now universally accepted as a significant Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for all manufacturers. But there is still a strong need to educate people on what OEE is, what it is highlighting from the operations and what the opportunities for improvement are.

overall equipment effectiveness (OEE): Overall equipment effectiveness is a measure of manufacturing operations performance and productivity, expressed in a percentage. OEE indicates the degree to which a manufacturing plant is truly productive, and serves as a general and inclusive measurement of how well a company's manufacturing operations OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is a widely used and well recognised KPI (Key Performance Indicator) metric which evaluates how effectively a production line is utilised. The most widely used way to calculate OEE is calculated by multiplying three individual metrics : Availability, Performance and Quality. OEE = Availability x Performance x Quality. OEE Quality is similar to First Pass Yield, in that it defines Good Parts as parts that successfully pass through the manufacturing process the first time without needing any rework. The remaining time after Quality Loss is subtracted is called Fully Productive Time.
However, most manufacturing companies achieve OEE at around 60%.

OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is a lean manufacturing tool and universal best practice to monitor, evaluate and improve the effectiveness of a production process. This could be an assembly line, machine cell, packaging line, filling machine, CNC machine, or any other production equipment. OEE is considered by many as the single best metric for identifying losses, benchmarking progress, and improving the productivity of manufacturing equipment (i.e., eliminating waste).

There is no standard method or metrics for the measurement or analysis of OFE4. In reality, unplanned downtime has the greatest negative impact on manufacturing efficiency and should be reflected in how OEE is measured. If downtime is unplanned or unscheduled that means that one part of a production line, machine cell, or even an individual machine, is operating outside of the business’s planned manufacturing process.

The OEE of a manufacturing unit are calculated as the product of three separate components: Availability: percentage of scheduled time that the operation is available to operate. Often referred to as Uptime. Performance: speed at which the Work Center runs as a percentage of its designed speed.
Home OEE: Calculation of Manufacturing Performance Ratio OEE is a metric that is used for understanding the ratio of actual productive time to planned production time.
